Multinationals
Multinationals can potentially gain a competitive advantage by actively recruiting and hiring talented individuals from underrepresented or excluded social groups in different markets. The first reason is related to diversity and innovation. Diverse teams are known to foster innovation. They bring together different perspectives, sparking creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, which can lead to innovative solutions and ideas. If it hires from excluded social groups, a company can diversify its workforce and tap into this potential source of innovation (Siegel et al., 2019).
Secondly, such hiring practices can enhance a company's understanding of different market segments. Employees from these groups can provide insights into cultural nuances, preferences, and buying behaviors. This understanding can be leveraged to improve product development, design effective marketing strategies, and deliver superior customer service (Siegel et al., 2019).
Another benefit is related to the company's brand image and reputation. Companies that are seen as inclusive and diverse can enhance their brand image and reputation. This not only attracts more customers but also draws in more talent, creating a virtuous cycle of growth and success. Plus, in many markets, there are also regulatory requirements encouraging or demanding certain levels of diversity. If they actively hire from excluded groups, companies can comply with these regulations. Moreover, such actions demonstrate corporate social responsibility, which is increasingly important to consumers, employees, and investors in today's business environment.
Still, companies must also strive to create an inclusive workplace culture where everyone feels valued and has equal opportunities. This includes implementing fair and unbiased hiring practices, providing equal opportunities for growth and development, and addressing any instances of discrimination or bias.
